Etching on a 25 x 25 cm, 1 mm thick zinc plate, created in my Paris studio and printed at the Grand Palais during L'ENSBA's presentation at the SAGA'93 Printmaking Exhibition in the Peter Stuivesant Foundation's hall, which acquired the first five copies of the edition. The École des Beaux-Arts and the Gabao Workshop selected me to represent the school at the SAGA'93 competition, and there, on a magnificent electric press, I made many copies of this… and other prints during the week-long exhibition. The École des Beaux-Arts in Paris published a diptych featuring a reproduction of this work.
This figure is based on adapting the seated figure to the square format. With simple, fine lines, the shadows focus on the features of the hair and neck to direct the viewer's gaze to a single point: the face. The figure is in profile, and the pose is one of repose, contemplation, and submission to the square format of the plate.
Rodolfo Navarro is an artist with over 40 years of experience who has expressed himself through drawing, printmaking, photography, and sculpture since the age of 13, with international exhibitions in various countries. He uses all techniques, exploring the transition between figuration and geometry close to the abstract, blurring forms in an infinite play. His works invite you to immerse yourself in spaces where the architectural transformation of the human figure awakens a connection with the viewer. Born in Valencia in 1966, he spent his childhood in the workshop of his father, a goldsmith and jeweler, and his mother, who made artistic enamels. He established a Master-Disciple relationship with Rafael Pérez Contel, reminiscent of the Renaissance. He set up his first professional studio in Paris from 1991 to 1997. He married Marie-Noëlle in 2002; they have four daughters. He currently divides his time between working at his studios in Valencia (Spain), Beijing (China) and Balaruc-les-bains (Occitanie, France).
