About this artwork
Here I reinterpret Johannes Vermeer's "Girl with a Pearl Earring" by fragmenting her image through a broken mirror. I retain her gaze, her gentleness, her silent presence, but I multiply it, I fracture it. The face appears in shards, as if time, memory, or the contemporary gaze were disrupting the original image.
Each fragment reflects a variation, a different angle, a different perception. Nothing is stable, everything is recomposed. The background,… laden with graffiti and textures, replaces Vermeer's somber calm with a chaotic, urban energy.
I seek to question the way we look at icons of the past. The image is no longer unique or intact: it becomes multiple, fragile, traversed by our projections and our era.
