About this artwork
In this oil painting, I blend figurative art with surrealism to capture the story in the Greek mythology of the Phoenician princess on whom the supreme God Zeus had a lustful eye. Zeus transformed himself into a white bull in order to escape of his wife Hera and also not to scare off the girl with his divine appearance. The young princess was with her friends at the beach who were, at the in this painting chosen moment, not aware what was hanging…
over their heads. Zeus abducts Europa after she climbed on the back of the beautifull looking, friendly animal. The bull swam to the island of Crete where he appeared in his true form and raped her. The painters Rubens and Rembrandt also where inspired by this story but chose for a later moment then I do. My painting depicts the gullible, innocent girls, the tension and the misguidance.
