As the sun sets, in its place, rise fears, anxieties and a joyfully liberated perspective of being.
A lighthouse stands solid, entwined by the fleeting happenings of life and nature. It is a symbol of objectivety, of clarity of mind, a solid core of comfort within the comical nature of our existance.
The composition is fashioned in a way that describes a stillness. It could perhaps be the calm before a storm though; a foreboding of rougher waters… and darker skies. A raincoat and a resolute mind may well be needed.

Rory Mitchell is an experienced Norwegian artist who has participated in exhibitions and residencies in Norway and the UK. He balances a largely satirical tone - explorations of political agendas and the aligned engagement of whole populations - with a countering search for tranquility outside of these concerns. Primarily working with oil on canvas, he produces figurative paintings that showcase rich colour palettes and possess Expressionist undertones.
