About this artwork
After painting for years, around 2019 I spent a little time revisitng figure painting technique in oils and began working out a new system. this painting marks a turning point and represents an early success. The painting style is loose and fluid but also captures the figure in light and in space and uses a sharp shadow to good effect. The pose of the protagonist conveys a mood we all remember from our youth. I think the whole thing works together…
