About this artwork
I loved watching cartoons on Saturday mornings when I was a child. I have many favorite characters and Mighty Mouse is one of them. In making this painting I was imagining the character from comic books, Magneto, having a battle with a cartoon character like Mighty Mouse. As I started working on the composition I realized that I needed an extra character to take part in the "action". I had painted already an area that had a kind of vertical motion,… because I was trying to portray the magnetic powers from the character Magneto. This part of the composition helped me visualize the character Thor descending from the sky in this same vertical motion, in order to help in the battle. Childhood memories from cartoons and comic books inspired me in the past to make a series of paintings, including this one, as an homage to this two art forms from American Pop culture.
« "I use comic book images and adapt, combine, destroy, recombine, and layer them into completely new and energized compositions." »
