About this artwork
In this work, I have captured the tension between community and individuality. The figures leave the city as if guided by an invisible call. It is, of course, the larger-than-life, dominant flautist on the right edge of the picture who lures the people with his melody. A symbol of longing and uncertainty—the Pied Piper of modern times. The surreal and symbolic elements enhance the emotional depth, while the collage technique (color prints from woodcuts)…
adds life and movement. This picture brings energy and contemplation to any room in which it hangs.

Sabrina Catowiez works primarily with acrylic paints, charcoal, and collage techniques, drawing on a rich background in music, dance, and animal and nature studies. Her works combine striking color contrasts, translucent pigment surfaces, charcoal drawings, and color prints from woodcuts to create a unique visual language inspired by classical modernist artists. Early inspiration came from the painters of the Blaue Reiter group, Die Brücke, the Russian avant-garde, Futurismo, and—in her early works—Vasarely. Using a multifaceted technique, she deliberately utilizes stylistic breaks and explores themes such as nature, animals, music, and human life. Her art is deeply moving and conveys inspiring, life-affirming emotions—she aims to give viewers courage and inspiration.
Sabrina gained her first artistic experience in London. The European metropolis' art scene was a rich source of inspiration. She has lived and worked in Bamberg since 1990.
