About this artwork
In this work, I have captured a feeling of inner reflection. The symbolism of the fictional historical building and the hidden ghost represent isolation and a longing for understanding. The scene is brought to life by the guitarist sitting in the archway, whose melody can almost be heard. Through the combination of acrylic, collage (color print from a woodcut and engraving), and pigments, I created a mysterious, surreal atmosphere that encourages… the viewer to contemplate what is hidden, lost, and desired. It brings a quiet yet powerful energy to your space. The work is framed in a red shadow gap frame, which echoes the guitarist's color and thus establishes an intense connection to the painting.
Sabrina Catowiez works with acrylic paints, pigments, charcoal, and collage elements. She brings a rich, sophisticated visual vocabulary to her work. Her unique visual language emerges from drawing and color, which she dynamically combines. The drawing lends rhythm and emotional tension to the compositions, while the translucent pigments create atmospheric depth. With a clear understanding of composition and movement, the painter realizes her works, which are imbued with literature, music, movement, memory, and travel. Her art is emotional and deeply moving. One immediately senses the influence of early modernist movements—especially those of the "Blue Rider" and "Die Brücke" groups—as well as aspects of Futurism and Expressionist narrative painting. Sabrina gained her first artistic experience in London. The art scene of the European metropolis was a rich source of inspiration. She has lived and worked in Bamberg since 1990.
