About this artwork
In Nightfall from the Sanctuary series, the boundaries between photography and painting disappear. The choice of colors, the golden sun and the cold tone of the bare branches, are reminiscent of Van Gogh's works. The painter mixed a luminous, harmonious yellow with different shades of blue.
Behind a veil of dense, leafless trees, countless branches rise up before us, and suddenly we see the setting sun trying to bathe the surroundings in gold. Like… an invitation to follow it, like the beginnings of a journey.

Saima Altunkaya, a German-Assyrian photographer living in Paris, combines photography with painting, drawing on its deep roots. She adopts techniques such as long exposure and multiple exposure, creating dreamlike images where chance sublimates precision, abolishing the boundaries between reality and imagination. Her works, bathed in a subtle play of light and color, exude an authentic melancholy and invite introspection, touching the viewer with the depth of emotions she unleashes.
