About this artwork
The painting composition is based on a combination of images from Hitchcock's, 1954 mystery thriller, 'Rear Window' and motifs inspired by Pop Art paintings. The work portrays a couple drinking, in close proximity but not acknowledging each other. The title 'Last Orders' relates to pub closing time and along with the 'Exit' sign, visible in the painting, hints at the end of an evening or perhaps the end of a romance. The artist leaves the viewer…
to decide the storyline...

« I am a Fine Artist, working in oils. I make paintings about people, relationships, and the human condition that aim to create a dialogue between the subject and viewer. »
Sal Jones' works reinterpret the stereotypical portrait. The U.K. based artist, who has extensively exhibited nationally, suggests a story or emotional state through color, mark-making, expression, and titles. Jones often employs fictional characters, film references, and images that may seem familiar as a commentary on contemporary life. Working with photography is a starting point for her artistic process, she paints directly onto canvas, building up layers from washes and texture, as well as combining brushwork with a palette knife.
