About this artwork
The "Decaying Hydra" awakens. The rupture of surface tension makes it aware of its own existence in this still-virgin space; from then on, only one thing matters: filling the void with its presence. It expands with its entire being; arms, neck, legs, and mane multiply and lengthen as much as possible. If there is only it and emptiness in this world, then the world must become it, and from then on, it will become emptiness.
Samuel Salel expresses himself through acrylic paint, Indian ink, ballpoint pen illustration, and living mineral painting, drawing on a rich training and an eclectic career spanning graphic design and art schools. He combines abstraction, surrealism, and figuration, multiplying universes and sometimes merging several techniques in a single work. He explores the themes of existence, alchemy, and imaginary mythologies, infusing his creations with a poetic tension between chaos and construction, each time revealing the enigmatic beauty of organic processes and happy accidents.
