Sandy Sokoloff (b. Brooklyn, NY 1944) attended Queens College, CUNY before enrolling at Boston University School of Fine Arts. He received a BFA in 1966, attended Skowhegan School of Painting and Drawing (1968) and received an MFA in Painting, 1969. He taught at Wellesley College (1969-76); Tanglewood Institute (1971); Boston University (1977-78); Art Institute of Boston (1979-80). He had residencies at MacDowell Colony (1973, 1980) and extensive exhibitions in New York and Boston beginning in 1973 and culminating in 1993 when he reached a spiritual and artistic impasse. After a twenty-year hiatus, he deepened his investigation into the spiritual nature of art. By 2019 he had produced the ‘Sephirot’ series which extrapolates the imagery of ancient Judaic mysticism. During the COVID pandemic he produced the ‘Archangels’ series (2019), ‘Prophets’ series (2020) and the ‘Light from the Lighthouse’) series (2020-21). He began his current Oculus ('Eye of God’) series in 2022.
