The dragon symbolizes inner strength that protects and sustains.
The part that continues and endures.
No matter what happens and no matter what you have to go through.
The paper kite symbolizes freedom,
for lightness and for the courage to look upwards.
She is still a child.
And yet, she already carries a world on her shoulders.
She loves going outside and playing.
The world feels lighter there.
Before… Mom left, they made a small paper dragon together.
He stayed.
The cardboard is not smooth.
It has visible creases, fine cracks, pressure marks and traces of carrying, rolling and rehanging.
The surface is slightly wavy, showing wrinkles and signs of age.
These creases are not a flaw, but part of the artwork.
They tell of resilience –
that even something broken can bear weight, hold on, and continue to exist.

Sarah Giuliani is a Swiss painter who works figuratively with acrylics, charcoal, and mixed media. She studied at the Zurich University of the Arts (ZHdK) and combines artistic practice with her background in art education and social work.
Her works are often created on raw cardboard and other unconventional supports. Traces of the material, folds, and cracks remain visible and become part of the narrative. Realistic figures meet expressive surfaces – oscillating between childlike directness, vulnerability, and inner strength.
The focus is on the question of identity, belonging and resilience, and the power that arises when honesty becomes visible.
