When I was in Ghana in 2015, I met a boy I have never forgotten.
He hardly spoke. He didn't need to.
While the others were loud, he was simply there and observed.
At first I didn't know what to make of it.
But at some point I realized how peaceful it feels when he's there.
Like a silent connection between us.
No words, no explanations.
This feeling gave rise to this image.

Sarah Giuliani is a Swiss painter who works figuratively with acrylics, charcoal, and mixed media. She studied at the Zurich University of the Arts (ZHdK) and combines artistic practice with her background in art education and social work.
Her works are often created on raw cardboard and other unconventional supports. Traces of the material, folds, and cracks remain visible and become part of the narrative. Realistic figures meet expressive surfaces – oscillating between childlike directness, vulnerability, and inner strength.
