About this artwork
You don't have to make your child's dream come true. You just have to give them the feeling that it might be possible.
She wears a pilot's helmet because her dream is to one day fly through the sky. Every day she climbs the same hill and imagines what it would be like to soar over the world in an airplane or even a hang glider.
And every time her feet leave the ground, that dream feels a little closer.
Children always want just one more time.… Their parents spin them around and around until they simply can't anymore. For the adults, it's probably just a game. For the children, it feels like flying.
Looking back on it now, I think it's one of the greatest gifts parents can give their children. Not by making a dream come true, but by giving a child the feeling that it might be possible.
Sarah Giuliani is a Swiss painter who works figuratively with acrylics, charcoal, and mixed media. She studied at the Zurich University of the Arts (ZHdK) and combines artistic practice with her background in art education and social work. Her works are often created on raw cardboard and other unconventional supports. Traces of the material, folds, and cracks remain visible and become part of the narrative. Realistic figures meet expressive surfaces – oscillating between childlike directness, vulnerability, and inner strength. The focus is on the question of identity, belonging and resilience, and the power that arises when honesty becomes visible.
