This original is created from reclaimed materials such as cardboard, tissue paper, water-colour paper, glass beads, inks, charcoal, oil pastel, handmade paper and gold for a touch of elegance.
This piece was made intuitively, evolving through different stages. Each addition felt like it naturally belonged, a response to what the artwork needed at that moment. While the portrait was planned, it transformed over time, with the final touch being the… blue oil pastel.
The piece is titled Echoes of Connection. The name speaks to the blend of materials I used, each one carrying its own history, once shaped or touched by someone else. To me, it symbolizes how everything in this world is interconnected, a sentiment deeply woven into the essence of this work.
The piece is framed in a box frame like it is floating in the frame.
This way the unique form and textures are highlighted even more and cast a wonderful shadow on the backing.
Saskia van Drunen (1971) is a Dutch artist whose process reveals an artist deeply engaged in the exploration of the inner emotional lives of her subjects, often capturing the quiet, vulnerable moments of women in a way that feels both personal and universal. Her technique combines careful figurative detail with abstracted, textured elements, creating a sense of timelessness and depth that resonates with viewers on an intimate level. Through her thoughtful use of colour, shape, and texture, she not only portrays beauty but also evokes the complexity of personal introspection, inviting viewers to find their own reflections within her work.
Saskia’s work is a burst of life and energy, and it invites the viewer to discover and connect with their own emotions.
