About this artwork
When I began this painting, I didn’t just see a figure emerging, but I felt like honoring the journey.
The deep violets and purply reds across the canvas are surrounding her like a silent transformation, shifting and layering until she slowly took shape.
Hints of gold flickered in, like sparks of realization, moments of clarity breaking through the haze.
Green and orange lines cut gently through the space, like threads of connection weaving her… into the world. She wasn’t simply appearing, Her golden eyes hold a quiet knowing.
She is stepping fully into herself, no longer shaped by the background, but embracing it, claiming it as part of her story.
This painting is about that moment, the one where you stop searching for permission to exist and simply take your place.
When the background no longer feels like something you must escape, but something you are woven into, part of, and at peace with.
She emerges, not from nothing, but from everything she has ever been.
Saskia van Drunen (1971) is a Dutch artist whose process reveals an artist deeply engaged in the exploration of the inner emotional lives of her subjects, often capturing the quiet, vulnerable moments of women in a way that feels both personal and universal. Her technique combines careful figurative detail with abstracted, textured elements, creating a sense of timelessness and depth that resonates with viewers on an intimate level. Through her thoughtful use of colour, shape, and texture, she not only portrays beauty but also evokes the complexity of personal introspection, inviting viewers to find their own reflections within her work.
Saskia’s work is a burst of life and energy, and it invites the viewer to discover and connect with their own emotions.
