About this artwork
This composition brings together three musicians in a vibrant, energetic space, where geometric shapes and primary colors punctuate the canvas like a visual score. The instruments—trumpet, saxophone, double bass—emerge in bursts of broken lines and dynamic volumes. Red, yellow, and blue dominate, creating a warm, almost incandescent atmosphere, reminiscent of jazz and blues improvisations.
With this work, my intention is to restore the expressive… power of music, its emotional intensity and its freedom. The figures are not only musicians, they become vectors of sonic energy, translated into colorful rhythms and clashing forms. The painting echoes the syncopations and harmonies, seeking to freeze on canvas the moving and elusive essence of the blues.
Serge Dumez, a painter and draftsman, began his artistic career with pencil drawing and pastel. His technique fuses the elegance of drawing and the vivacity of pastel, manifesting a predilection for deconstructed representations through cubism. By exploring human relationships in his works, Dumez conveys deep feelings and complex ideas.
