About this artwork
This painting was 1 of 5 chosen for set design for coming film, FOREIGN TONGUE (director, Boris Mojosovski).
River Side Jazz was created right at the waters edge of Pine Point Beach. Walking distance from my home and studio. I decided to set up a 48in by 36in panel and spend the day at the beach along with families that had the day off. One father was there playing his banjo as his child played in the sand and water. A momma duck was swimming… with her baby ducklings very close but not close enough for me to reach out and touch them. I hadn’t planned on being there all day, luckily my husband brought me a snack so I could keep working. As he delivered my food, he mentioned that just on the other side of the scene I was painting, there were chairs and wedding decorations being set up! Most of this painting was painted on site and finished in my studio.
Trees are very figurative to me, these just seem to be grooving to a jazz jam.
