About this artwork
I created this canvas as a landscape of thresholds: deep black fields and sudden bursts of white that stand like open or closed doors. The brushstrokes are bold, the scratches and spatula marks recall surfaces worn by time, like entrances scarred by history. I wanted the forms to remain ambiguous, sometimes architectural, sometimes symbolic, so as to suggest possible passages rather than defined maps. The stark contrast between light and dark becomes…
for me a metaphor for choice: to enter or stop, to cross or stay. I invite the viewer to gaze through these passages, to imagine what lies beyond each door and to be traversed by the uncertainty of each step.
