About this artwork
It's an object made of hands and matter, an abstraction that speaks of the sea without naming it. I applied layers of acrylic, spread and scraped, applied gesso that softens and enhances the light, glued sand that grains the surface, and applied gold leaf that sparkles like sunlight reflecting on deep water. My color palette is a melody of blue, from clear azure to ultramarine and the darkest navy, because blue is my favorite color, and through it… I express calm, memory, and anticipation.
The composition is luminous: the chromatic contrasts and transparencies create planes that overlap and open like currents, while the textural details suggest tiny dreamscapes—islands of light, cavities of shadow, barely visible trails. The brushstrokes and scratched marks guide the gaze in a slow, meditative movement; the sand beneath the fingers, the gold leaf catching the flash, the plaster breathing: all contribute to a sense of inner serenity.
Silvana Di Vora, a self-taught artist, uses watercolor, acrylic on canvas, and scrap materials to create works brimming with light and movement. She experiments with figurative and abstract art, using rapid brushstrokes and intense monochromes, highlighting the three-dimensionality and luminosity of unexpected details. Her works, often melancholic and dynamic, convey that even from darkness, the most intense light and vibrant color can emerge, instilling vitality and hope in the viewer.
