About this artwork
This work of mine is born from an inner urgency, from a gesture rather than a thought. The quick, broad, almost instinctive brushstrokes are fragments of my breathing: they intertwine, collide, dissolve. The colors—deep blues, ochres, burnt, lit by flashes of white and red—live on tension and harmony, like emotions that find no precise contour.
On the surface, something emerges: a face, perhaps. Or rather, the idea of a face. It's not a self-portrait,… but it's not an absence either. It's the image of what remains when you don't want to appear, when you dissolve into your own painting to become only gesture, matter, rhythm.
Maybe I don't want to appear, that's true. Maybe I want the color to speak for me, for the figure to emerge just enough to then disappear again into the vibrant chaos of the canvas. Ultimately, what I paint is not the face, but the revelation and concealment of myself through color.
