About this artwork
Frequenze Urbane was born from listening—not with the ears, but with the entire body. I wanted to capture the chaotic, vibrant rhythm of the metropolis: the overlapping voices, noises, movements, and artificial lights that pulsate even at night.
I laid out the colors relentlessly, one on top of the other, like the city does with its layers of history. Blue pervades everything—it's the urban atmosphere, the thick air, the cold light of neon lights… and monitors. Yellow explodes high and low like the glare of headlights, streetlamps, windows illuminated in the shadows. Red bursts in at times, suddenly: a signal, an alarm, the warm blood of those who truly live that city.
Black streaks across the surface with rapid, sharp strokes—the subway lines, the cables, the grates, the shadows cast by artificial light on the asphalt. White isn't absence: it's background noise, the excess sound pressure, the moment when frequencies all add up and almost cancel each other out.
Silvana Di Vora, a self-taught artist, uses watercolor, acrylic on canvas, and scrap materials to create works brimming with light and movement. She experiments with figurative and abstract art, using rapid brushstrokes and intense monochromes, highlighting the three-dimensionality and luminosity of unexpected details. Her works, often melancholic and dynamic, convey that even from darkness, the most intense light and vibrant color can emerge, instilling vitality and hope in the viewer.
