About this artwork
I painted this picture as if it were a held breath. I chose quick, decisive gestures, almost like scratches, to capture that moment when everything shifts within and without me. The blades of black slash across the canvas like sudden, sharp thoughts, propelling the scene forward. Between them open fields of electric blue and azure: they are the cold of lucidity, the need to orient myself as energy overwhelms me.
Red, dense and vivid, is the beating… heart of the moment: a flame that ignites and demands space. All around, flashes of yellow are sparks, small revelations. The dirty whites and gray glazes tell the story of the rush of the race, the wake every choice leaves behind. I worked in layers, unafraid to cover and reopen, because every moment is born from those that precede it.
The composition is deliberately unbalanced, as when emotion shifts our center of gravity: diagonal lines that push to the right, a vortex that enters and then escapes.
