About this artwork
I create sea and memory: I lay down layers of blue to build depth, then scrape and overlap to reveal hidden currents. The heavy textures under the brushes and the sharp strokes of the spatula are the wrinkles of the water, its furrows where light and shadow nestle. White is my foam, made of bursts and pauses; black is the abyss that invites silence. Orange is an act of chromatic rebellion, a fragment of warmth that interrupts the cold sea; it can… be a lighthouse, a creature, or a floating memory. I don't depict an identifiable coastline: instead, I describe the sensation of being suspended between movement and stillness, the nostalgia and energy that the sea evokes in me every time I paint.
Silvana Di Vora, a self-taught artist, uses watercolor, acrylic on canvas, and scrap materials to create works brimming with light and movement. She experiments with figurative and abstract art, using rapid brushstrokes and intense monochromes, highlighting the three-dimensionality and luminosity of unexpected details. Her works, often melancholic and dynamic, convey that even from darkness, the most intense light and vibrant color can emerge, instilling vitality and hope in the viewer.
