About this artwork
In this oil painting, I wanted to explore the hidden depths beneath appearances, drawing inspiration from the symbolism of icebergs and metaphysics. The work conveys a sense of mystery and introspection, inviting the viewer to reflect on what lies beneath the surface. Bringing this energy into the home means embracing the balance between visible and invisible, reality and dream. Borrowing Freud's structural model of the mind, we can imagine our psyche… as an iceberg sailing in a boundless sea—the collective feeling. The part that manifests is the tip of the iceberg; our ego is the closest to the concept of the self, while the majority of our mental activity resides in the deep Id, where the Superego acts as a mediator and governs our impulses and the conflicts that arise from them, in a constant interaction between the three components of our mind.
Silvano Crespi is a painter with a background in Political Science and a deep passion for oil painting, born from his study of the great European masters of the 18th and 19th centuries. He uses a reflective, introspective, and post-Impressionist technique, characterized by broad areas of color, a focus on light and shadow, vibrant colors, and perspectives that evoke infinity. His works, imbued with natural landscapes and atmospheric influences, convey an intense emotion of silent contemplation, celebrating the fleeting nature of time and the eternal relationship between the individual and the universe.
