About this artwork
“Stars, Stripes & Marilyn” – three-part mixed media artwork on canvas
I created this image through an intense creative process—a three-part work combining photography with acrylic painting. The American flag forms a powerful backdrop for the iconic Marilyn Monroe, who looms like a ghost of color and light through the center of the central image.
Each panel is hand-painted with acrylic paints on canvas and deliberately rough-textured to give… the work depth and expression. The stars and stripes are not only symbols of the USA, but also emblems of pop culture, freedom, and contemporary history. In this triptych, Marilyn Monroe stands as a symbol of 1950s iconography—embedded in a modern, abstract color scheme of red, white, and blue.
I deliberately chose canvases of simpler quality to give the work a raw, imperfect aesthetic.
Silvia Lehmann combines acrylic and mixed media. By layering acrylic on top of each other and spontaneously composing the image, she achieves depth and unexpected background elements. Her art comes into direct contact with the viewer. She conveys motivation, joy, attitude to life and self-worth with a fascinating simplicity that allows the viewer to immerse themselves emotionally in her vibrations.
