About this artwork
Cachalot
Sperm Whale Model
I have completed two Sperm Whales and created new stands with possible acrylic rods as opposed to metal coper piping. I read Moby Dick a short while ago. I guess that was the initial spark to create a life-like model of this fascinating giant beast that eats squid from the dark depths of the ocean.
These whales have quite a unique body shape, a very large head and toothed mouth, but somehow it looks quite odd and you… wonder how it gets about, so it was quite challenging to achieve an aesthetic-looking finish. Each whale has unique individual body scars. In order to give the whales a more realistic appearance, the whales have many coats of paint, mediums to give the skin a more life-like finish.
Materials used, wood, metal, fibre glass, plaster, acrylics, acrylic mediums, resin, plaster,
