About this artwork
The work from the LAUTER series unfolds like a burst of color and movement. Luminous orange and deep red spread across the surface like pressure waves, held in place by cool blue zones that offer little respite, but rather vibrate. In the center, a bright space opens up – not stillness, but a brief pause before the next eruption.
The energy of the painting is immediate. Every stroke acts like a reflex, a physical reaction to what is intensifying… in the external world. Color is no longer representation, but action. It carries the restlessness, the force, the urgency of a time in which nothing remains quiet.
Depth is created here too through memory, but the principle is reversed: while the inner leads to silence, LAUTER drives the inner outwards. The image becomes a resonating chamber: a place where life is released.

Simon Thon studied at the Ruhr Academy of Fine Arts and subsequently worked in advertising before becoming a freelance photographer. His photographic work also maintains a clear artistic expression. Nevertheless, painting remains his true focus. In his studio, his work evolved from early figurative, realistic motifs to increasingly freer abstraction. He rejects the constraints of a single style and understands art as an open process. His painting thus becomes an intimate form of communication and, at the same time, an instrument for understanding the world and its current tensions. Social contradictions, frictions, and shifts act as underlying forces in his paintings, lending them both emotional and intellectual urgency.
