About this artwork
I've been working as a public artist in Perth for the past few years and at last count I have painted around 40 large scale murals. Each artwork is site specific, but I am usually asked by clients to paint with bright colours. This painting was an opportunity for me to paint at a large scale and blend beautiful designer colours together. The lighter pistachio green is reminiscent of a summers day enjoying a delicious ice cream, the darker greens…
hint at the overhanging trees, while the peaches and pinks indicate delicate hibiscus flowers. The intuitive mark making has become synonymous with my abstract style. I found the process somewhat meditative and was inspired to paint on the floor in the studio after watching the film Pollack (with Ed Harris). Walking around the canvas while painting gave me different perspectives throughout the process. Careful not to overwork, I finished when I felt the composition was just right, leaving room for the work to breathe.

Sioux Tempestt is an artist based in Australia whose paintings have been featured in several solo exhibitions nationally. Living in the inner-city, she is influenced by the urban landscape that surrounds her. As a result, Tempestt's striking compositions fuse abstraction with a more "edgier" urban style. She primarily creates with acrylics, oil pastels, graphite, and collage on wood or canvas.
