About this artwork
The African Garden series and specifically Red Path in the Cactus Garden are remembered African landscapes and gardens with the sensorial overload of colour, abundant flora and heat. I spent the nineties in South Africa and my children grew up running around in these exotic spaces, noticing bugs and amazing and lush plants, trees and flowers. I have many photos which I use as reference but once I'm in flow and painting intuitively, the spaces…
and relationships between forms and colour create their own dynamic. My painting style oscillates between figuration and abstraction, drawing being one of my strengths. These paintings are joyful and invite the viewer to participate in however the energy, forms and space speaks to them. They are statement pieces which would bring dynamism, intense colour and a talking point into any living or working space.

Skye Holland, Central St. Martins alumni and also art educator, skillfully engages oil, graphite, acrylic, pigment powders, and gold leaf to create mixed media paintings and drawings. Her intricate techniques, inspired by the experience of being in varying environments, moves intuitively between abstraction and figuration. Each layered mark introduce whispers of thought, emotion, memory and sometimes just pure energy. Artists and viewers alike find themselves immersed in Holland's poignant portrayal of a fragile world, stirred by her evocative representation of human impact and the unsettling beauty of impermanence.
