About this artwork
River I is a snapshot of the sensorial experience I had of tracking the River Nadder on foot near my home. Watching eddies and flow of the river, zooming in on the micro to elicit unnoticed details, connecting to where that took me emotionally and energetically. On. first impressions, the painting seems abstract until you start to pick out the detail... overhanging leaves and branches, river plants and the sky and surrounding life reflected back…
to us, the interconnectedness and flow of energy.

Skye Holland, Central St. Martins alumni and also art educator, skillfully engages oil, graphite, acrylic, pigment powders, and gold leaf to create mixed media paintings and drawings. Her intricate techniques, inspired by the experience of being in varying environments, moves intuitively between abstraction and figuration. Each layered mark introduce whispers of thought, emotion, memory and sometimes just pure energy.
