About this artwork
This piece arose from my fascination with the animal kingdom and surrealism. I painted this animal portrait of an inflatable stoat using acrylics to blend realism with a touch of surrealism and pop art. I wanted to capture a sense of lightness and playfulness, but also a certain tenderness. The overall effect is a contrast between the metallic animal and an antique pink background. I imagine it brings a vibrant, playful, and surprising energy to… any space. It's like bringing a moment of fun home, but with the understated elegance of an antique portrait!
Sofía Cristina Jiménez primarily uses acrylic on linen, watercolor on Arches paper, and graphite, cultivating her training through artistic research and experimentation in her own studio. She employs a style that oscillates between colorful surrealism and contrasting techniques: free, gestural brushwork combined with meticulous detail, obsessed with volume and light. Her works convey a vibrant emotional universe, where the human and the animal intertwine to evoke fragility, resilience, and a shining hope in the face of life's opposites.
