About this artwork
In this work, I have depicted a creature that blends the real with the surreal, using vibrant colors and pop art forms to convey energy and mystery. It is a portrait of a platypus transformed into a metallic golden balloon, belonging to the Ascendants and Descendants series. This series takes the language of classical aristocratic portraiture and applies it to the fauna: each animal receives the same solemnity and anatomical study once reserved for…
the nobility.
Worked on for over a month, the surface retains the textures from multiple tests of form and color. Acrylic on Belgian linen, Liquitex pigments. The edges are finished; the piece can be hung or displayed without a frame.
