About this artwork
"Strenghts that Does Not Show Itself Loudly" is an intimate dialogue with what we carry in silence. I created it during a moment when words were not enough, and emotion moved like weather inside me — steady, quiet, unspoken. The vertical traces evoke rain, but not a rain of sorrow. It is the kind of inner rain that washes, that remembers, that endures without a cry. My artworks are all created on 100% cotton canvas fabric, not directly on pre-made…
canvas boards. They are stretched on beech wood stretcher bars (4 cm wide) with 3 cm thick cross-braces to ensure robustness and long-lasting durability. The stretching is carried out by a specialized atelier in Coimbra, Macmolduras (see their Instagram at https://www.instagram.com/macmolduras/). Sonia J. is a contemporary abstract painter whose work operates beyond the white cube. Her practice explores large-scale abstract painting through repetition, vertical rhythm, and material restraint, creating works with strong architectural and symbolic presence. Working primarily with acrylic and mixed media on canvas, she develops paintings that privilege duration and sustained attention over immediate visual impact. Silence functions as a structural condition, allowing the work to coexist with architectural, institutional, and private spaces without becoming decorative. Her paintings maintain autonomy across exhibitions, architectural environments, and contemporary interiors. Scale, surface, and layered accumulation are central to her process. Her work has been exhibited internationally across Europe and is held in private collections. She lives and works in Europe. Former C-level Suite in the Technology Industry.
