About this artwork
On my way to southern Italy, my first stop is Trento. A quiet morning by the mountain lake and suddenly it was there again: that feeling of freedom, the deep joy in the beauty of the moment and the anticipation of what lies ahead.
Soon I will move on, getting a little closer to the south. In this work, I have captured the atmosphere of early morning and my inner feelings in soft pastel colors. The small birds, engrossed in their own activity, peck… at the shore, giving me a sense of peace and connection.
The image invites us to immerse ourselves in the freshness of the still-cool day, to pause and gather strength for what lies ahead. For nothing is ever entirely certain, and perhaps therein lies the beauty of being on a journey.
Sonja Kalmanfi is a painter who creates her art on canvas and paper using pastels, acrylics, watercolors, and mixed media. She skillfully moves between realism and abstraction, masterfully capturing light, color, and moods. Her works convey a sensual melancholy and invite viewers to connect deeply with nature and their own inner selves at the threshold between dream and reality. She chooses the Cilento National Park in Italy as her setting and source of inspiration, having lived there for an extended period, visiting regularly, and exhibiting her work there. With her consistent focus on the Cilento region, she occupies an exceptional position within contemporary landscape painting there. In her paintings, the landscapes and places of this country merge with the artist herself, her inner self. She uses color as an emotional medium and she not only describes objects or places, but also creates psychological temperature.
