“Rede”/ Anchorage
This painting is a diptych. Boats are a recurring theme in my work, as I find certain boats and ships timeless and beautiful, making them perfect subjects for the canvas. The lines on the canvases flow seamlessly from one panel to the other, creating a sense of continuity. Subtle gold nuances have been applied in the background, adding depth and a touch of luminous elegance to the composition. By enlarging the boats in this way,… the work makes a bold statement on any wall, commanding attention and sparking conversation. The two paintings each measure 100 x 100 cm. When displayed, they are hung a few centimeters apart, making the total width slightly over 200 cm.
The painting is finished with a protective varnish layer.
The sides of the canvas are fully painted, allowing the artwork to be displayed without a frame.
The linen canvas is stretched on an aluminium frame and equipped with an adjustable hanging system.

Sophia Heeres was born in 1981 in Zuidlaren. Raised in Schipborg, in the middle of the River Valley the Drentsche Aa. She lived and worked in Groningen from 2002 to 2014, where she graduated in 2006 towards autonomous painting at the Art Academie Minerva.
Nowadays Sophia lives and works in Kraggenburg. After a process of experimenting with various styles and techniques Sophia has developed a unique style. Her paintings are characterized by powerful compositions, in which each part has its own color, which are lined in at the last minute. Through the use of lines the work is being abstracted. Light and dark are omitted in order to keep the simplicity of the theme. In her current work, colors are more and more mixed. During the painting process, Sophia is looking for a balance in her compositions, background and the use of color. Colors are brought together by emotion. By her color palette she creates her own reality in which recognition persists.
