About this artwork
In Intertwined Thoughts, Sophie Dumont explores the inner dimension of thought through a composition inspired by the abstract libraries that have become her signature. Books and chromatic fragments are woven together here like the threads of an inner dialogue.
Some forms overlap, others respond to or oppose each other, creating a visual network that evokes the circulation of ideas, their detours and their resonances.
The philosopher Hannah Arendt's… statement resonates particularly with this work:
"To think is to engage in dialogue with oneself."
Here, each “volume” becomes an idea that is posed, displaced, and reworked. The surface, entirely created with oil paint and a palette knife, reveals layers, repetitions, and traces of the gesture, like the memory of a thought in motion.
Frame: black or wood (your choice)
« To sublimate, to appropriate the subject, to keep only the essential. »
Sophie Dumont is a contemporary French painter born in Paris in 1964. She currently lives and works in Normandy. Her work, primarily oil on canvas, explores the memory of places through abstract landscapes, stylized libraries, and studio interiors. Through the layering of numerous paints and subtle collages, she constructs structured compositions where matter, light, and color interact. Her work is distinguished by a balance between architecture and pictorial sensibility. Exhibiting for over twenty years in France and internationally, notably in Germany, Canada, Belgium, and Italy, Sophie Dumont's work is now featured in numerous private and museum collections.
