In In Praise of Reading, Sophie Dumont continues her exploration of stylized libraries, which have become her true signature over time.
The coloured volumes, arranged in layers, seem to form a visual score: each book becomes a note, each hue a vibration of memory.
The dominant blue and ochre, punctuated with subtle greens and reds, creates a luminous balance between calm and energy.
Through the density of the oil paint, worked with a knife, the… artist evokes the superimposition of readings and thoughts, like so many layers of knowledge and time.
This composition, both structured and poetic, celebrates the silent beauty of books, the enduring act of reading, and the intimate dialogue between culture and emotion. Frame: black or wood, at the collector's choice.

Sophie Dumont is a contemporary French painter born in Paris in 1964. She currently lives and works in Normandy. Her work, primarily oil on canvas, explores the memory of places through abstract landscapes, stylized libraries, and studio interiors. Through the layering of numerous paints and subtle collages, she constructs structured compositions where matter, light, and color interact. Her work is distinguished by a balance between architecture and pictorial sensibility. Exhibiting for over twenty years in France and internationally, notably in Germany, Canada, Belgium, and Italy, Sophie Dumont's work is now featured in numerous private and museum collections.
