Original work signed Sophie Dumont
With Rythme des Mots, Sophie Dumont continues her pictorial exploration of libraries, here in a panoramic format that evokes the timeline, the cadence of thought and the density of knowledge.
The books, standing or lying down, stand as silent witnesses, bearers of stories, ideas, and human echoes. The composition rests on a delicate balance between verticality… and horizontality, colored masses and neutral breaths. The ochre, brick, cream, blue, and graphite tones echo each other in a visual choreography made of matter and silence.
Painted with a knife, the surface reveals a living texture, as if each book had been inscribed, weighed, and placed with intention. This work is not simply a representation of a shelf: it becomes an abstract score, a mental landscape, a tribute to culture as a common ground.
« To sublimate, to appropriate the subject, to keep only the essential. »
Sophie Dumont is a contemporary French painter born in Paris in 1964. She currently lives and works in Normandy. Her work, primarily oil on canvas, explores the memory of places through abstract landscapes, stylized libraries, and studio interiors. Through the layering of numerous paints and subtle collages, she constructs structured compositions where matter, light, and color interact. Her work is distinguished by a balance between architecture and pictorial sensibility. Exhibiting for over twenty years in France and internationally, notably in Germany, Canada, Belgium, and Italy, Sophie Dumont's work is now featured in numerous private and museum collections.
