About this artwork
Mineral Time explores the essence of time through a succession of pictorial strata, like layers slowly deposited by memory, light, and gesture. In this abstract and silent work, Sophie Dumont works with color as a process of sedimentation. Each band—ochre, blue, cream, olive, or black—acts as a trace of landscape, both real and imagined.
Surface irregularities, visible overlays, and rubbed or thickened textures create a deep, almost geological… vibration. The artist does not represent: she deposits, constructs, and visually archives fragments of sensations.
Between pure abstraction and sensitive reminiscence, Temps Minéral is part of an approach where painting becomes a living memory.
Choice of frame: black American-style frame or natural wood.

Sophie Dumont is a contemporary French painter born in Paris in 1964. She currently lives and works in Normandy. Her work, primarily oil on canvas, explores the memory of places through abstract landscapes, stylized libraries, and studio interiors. Through the layering of numerous paints and subtle collages, she constructs structured compositions where matter, light, and color interact. Her work is distinguished by a balance between architecture and pictorial sensibility. Exhibiting for over twenty years in France and internationally, notably in Germany, Canada, Belgium, and Italy, Sophie Dumont's work is now featured in numerous private and museum collections.
