About this artwork
This photograph draws us into an incandescent and almost unreal atmosphere. The sky, heavy with clouds sculpted by a violent light, seems to bend to the whims of a disquieting dream. Beneath this dramatic vault, the roofs are transformed: their burning tiles become a sea of embers, while a solitary chimney stands out in the shadows. Night is not synonymous here with absence but with intensity, as if insomnia gave access to a more acute perception…
of the world. The forms are simplified, abstracted, oscillating between figuration and suggestion. We find in this work the impressionist approach of the artist-photographer: working with light and rain, shadows and saturation, to blur the reference points and tip photography into the realm of painting.
