About this artwork
In "First Gaze," I explore what we feel in the very first moments of an encounter. Even before we know the other person well, their presence, their gestures, their words awaken something within us. The body reacts: we relax, we leap forward, or something tightens.
The forms face each other, approach, open up, or protect their space. I recognize in them those inner movements that we don't always know how to listen to. The desire to be loved, attraction,… or a vulnerability can make us doubt what we feel, pushing us to hope for something other than what is presented.
This first glance touches me for this reason: everything we already perceive about the other person, and what, within us, accepts to hear it or prefers to keep silent about it.

STEPHANIE BARDY
France
Stéphanie Bardy works primarily with collage, drawing on a rich background spanning Parisian art schools and experience in children's publishing. Her works are contemporary abstract art, with intuitive, graphic compositions that combine the power of geometric shapes with the vibrancy of bold colors. She cuts, assembles, and superimposes each fragment like a musical score, balancing symmetry and freedom. Her art invites contemplation and a silent, personal dialogue, seeking to make the invisible perceptible, while conveying intense emotions and poetry beyond narrative.
