About this artwork
This painting is dominated by a dynamic, slanted white ellipse or path that stretches across the picture plane and is outlined by strong yellow, ochre, and orange tones. Long, vertical drips, primarily in warm earth tones, flow downwards from the form and its surroundings, creating an impression of sinking, erosion, or gravity.
In the upper right corner, striking honeycomb and scale-like shapes can be seen, resembling a modular, almost architectural… structure. Further down, there are turquoise, floral, or bone-like forms, as well as patterned surfaces reminiscent of rock or technical grids.
The entire surface is heavily textured, with crackle structures, stencils, overlays and deliberately placed breaks in the painted surface.
In contrast to the rather static, centering circle of the “Passage”, the ellipse in “Breakthrough” acts here like a line of movement: a channel that makes its way through the layers.
