About this artwork
I have been fascinated by Wassily Kandinski and Joan Miro's abstract art works. To achieve the precise geometric shapes and circles, I had to do a lot of masking with tape, which has it's hazzards!
I was able to pull this off on the first attempt, no large sheets of quality art paper in the bin!
By adding subtle grey shadding, I have been able to achieve a 3D effect. This picture was originally titled "MiroUprising", but it bears no
real resemblance… to Joan Miro's pieces.
On Bockingford 90lbs watercolour art paper in portrait format.

I, Stephen Alpe, a self-taught watercolourist, started painting in watercolours back in 1986. Impressed by the artwork in ornithological books illustrated by artits such as David Reid-Henry. I strived to achieve the same level of excellence, but, where as, Reid Henry made it look like the subjects were about to fly off the page, my initial efforts looked like they had been carved out of stone!
I did, in time improve and was able to illustrate a few calendars and magazines.
On moving to the UK in 2007, I moved into painting landscapes and news items that caught my imagination. From 2012, I began to notice the works of the street artist Banksy. Other artists that I admire include Wassily Kadinski, Joan Miro and Pol Ledent.
