About this artwork
At times I aggregate multiple radially iterated photographs into a collection. In this piece the six circles are unified by virtue of their derivation from a single photograph. There’s a celebratory, carnival-like intensity in the palette and patterning. The pieces aim to suggest transformation through repetition: photographs become ornament, and ornament becomes structure.

Stephen Calhoun, a self-taught visual artist, utilizes digital photography, digital manipulation, and assemblage in his iterative work. His photographic subjects are built by hand using boxes, found objects and painted materials. Next he uses the pattern-making power of iteration to bring a compelling order to the chaotic subject.
