About this artwork
Combining photographic sources with digital and generative processing, this colorful circular artwork is rooted to one of my favorite approaches: radial iteration of original sources. Most viewers would see this manipulation to be a kaleidoscopic alteration. Stephen Calhoun, a self-taught visual artist, utilizes digital photography, digital manipulation, and assemblage in his iterative work. His photographic subjects are built by hand using boxes, found objects and painted materials. Next he uses the pattern-making power of iteration to bring a compelling order to the chaotic subject. The principal aim of his art is to generate an opportunity for the viewer to complete this artistic experiment using their lively imagination, sensitivity and mindful presence.
