About this artwork
This painting continues my exploration of liminality—a state of transition and personal transformation that leads to new perspectives and awareness. By developing the image intuitively and embracing ambiguity, I encourage the dissolution of the self, represented by Duchamp's Illuminating Gas. This Divine activity, akin to Eros, bridges the gap between the material and the transcendent, challenging our perception, much like the clouds of Magritte…
and Smilde.
The dancing child symbolizes our soul or Higher Self, echoing the Unknown Woman who, like Sophia, calls for unity and merging. This union of opposites is symbolized by the alchemical Royal Wedding, illustrated by the bridal dress over a mannequin and four adjacent groom tuxedos, representing opposing forces and unfulfilled material desires obstructing spiritual consummation. The infrathin, ambiguous dress in the foreground suggests a woman has just removed it, now observing the painting as though awakening from a dream.
