About this artwork
This painting is a compilation of several refugee and homeless camps from around the world. I wanted to capture the essence of the situation and at one point was forced to paint from how it made me feel more than trying to get it right. I used a whirlwind of colors to capture the chaotic emotions of an encampment. The textured expressionism brings out the complexity of human habitation, while my figurative approach makes each space deeply personal…
yet universally relatable. This piece is meant to evoke feelings of overwhelm and reflection on how we treat our fellow human beings.
