Stephen Lucas is a contemporary painter who studied at Ventura College and McCrady Fine Art School. He later completed a private apprenticeship under the painter and art theoretician Wesley E. Johnson, which is when he fully pivoted into his signature abstract expressionist style. Lucas masterfully blends dynamic abstract expressionism with vibrant color blocks, thick black outlines, and improvisational, intuitive mark-making. The finished artwork is a masterful orchestration expressing Lucas's heart and emotions. His style is non-figurative, and similar to music, the essence of each painting draws the viewer into a personal, spiritual communion evoking a profound sense of wonder, possibility, and emotional self-discovery.
